Abandoned position light |
Description: |
One of the many casualties of Amtrak's removal of service from the Ft. Wayne Line in the early 90s. This particular signal not only had its head turned sideways, the entire mast was turned sideways, which means the mast bolts were loosened and the mast turned and the bolts tightened. |

CF&E Lima Yard |
Description: |
CF&E's Lima Yard. The CF&E runs the show a little different than Conrail did, in that CF&E even stores cars on the main line. The signal bridge was a later CR addition, when CR was putting position lights on modern aluminum brackets. The signal is now dark. |

From the north side of the Ft. Wayne, this is a view of the abandoned Cloverleaf and the reason it was abandoned, which was the very tight curve at this location. The Cloverleaf entered town from the north and left to the west. |

The owners of the property that this signal abuts placed a small evergreen by the signal mast. If I owned property with position light signals near it, I'd voluntarily keep them looking like brand new. |

Seems to me CR had to remove the signal from the base in order to turn the entire mast like this. |

For the work CR did to turn these signals sideways, they could have just removed them, unless there was a future plan to re-activate these signals that never materialized. |
